emh group has today been announced as one of eight ambitious housing associations chosen by the Government to deliver more affordable homes.

The group, which has some 20,000 homes across the East Midlands, has secured £30.5m from Homes England to increase development of new housing in the region.

The decision will allow emh group to increase its development of new homes by 80 per cent over the next four years. This will see around 600 affordable homes now built in the region each year, over the next four years.

In total, Homes England will provide a funding package of just under £590m through to March 2022 to support the first wave of strategic partnerships with emh group, Great Places, Home Group, Hyde, L&Q, Matrix Partnership, Places for People, and Sovereign/Liverty.

Chan Kataria, emh group Chief Executive, said: “I am delighted that emh group has been selected as one of Homes England’s eight Strategic Partners. We welcome the opportunity for greater flexibility to grant funding for future affordable homes.

“The ability to manage our programme strategically, with certainty and flexibility over the next few years gives us the ideal platform to deliver much needed new homes in the East Midlands region.

“We also look forward to the opportunity this brings to build new partnerships and extend existing ones to help us deliver our aspirations.”

Secretary of State for Communities the Rt Hon James Brokenshire MP said: “There is no mission more urgent than making our housing market work, and we are investing £9bn in building affordable homes.

“This £590m fund we are giving Homes England will help housing associations accelerate the delivery of affordable properties communities need.”

Decisions on the location and type of homes will follow consultation and planning involving key regional partners and local residents.
