Leicestershire-based social housing provider emh homes has won the prestigious Housing Association of the Year award at the National Green Deal & Eco Awards 2015 for a groundbreaking project which aims to help residents save energy and cut carbon emissions from their homes.

The Gala Awards Dinner was hosted by impressionist and TV presenter Rory Bremner, and held at the historic Palace Hotel in Manchester on Friday 19 June. The after dinner speech was given by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, often described as the world’s greatest living explorer.

The awards were set up last year to provide public recognition of the great work being done in the energy efficiency sector in implementing the measures aimed at helping homeowners reduce their energy bills, tackle fuel poverty, and reduce carbon emissions introduced by the Government following the Energy Act 2013.

The landlord scooped the top prize for the installation of air-to-water heat pumps in 144 of its homes across the East Midlands, and for its innovative and widespread promotion of the Green Deal. The most energy efficient and affordable technology on the market, the pumps can achieve 420% efficiency even at low temperatures, and are expected to last for at least 25 years (over twice the life of the average modern gas central heating boiler). The landlord’s in-house Green Team also provides its services to owner occupiers, private landlords, and other social landlords in the region.

Bruce Kerr, Director of Asset Management at emh homes, said: “Winning this award reflects our commitment to energy efficiency and carbon reduction, and to providing great services, not just for our own tenants but also to others in the East Midlands. We are thrilled to have won.”
